5 Alive Challenge

5 Alive Challenge

I launched my 5 Alive Challenge in November 2012, when I asked all runners, young and old, to join me and my team in taking part in five of the best road races in Dublin City in 2013.
I wanted to highlight the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle as a vital part of a person’s wellbeing. Training for and participating in these races is a terrific opportunity for a positive start to 2013.

I am also very mindful of the wonderful City Council parks dotted throughout Dublin which provide ideal training grounds whether as a fun runner, serious runner, or an elite runner. We are privileged to have such fine parks.
The response to my call for volunteers to take part was overwhelming with 200 people registering in just under three weeks to run in all five races.
On January 1st 2013, we completed Race One - the Liffey Valley Tom Brennan Memorial 5K in the Phoenix Park. This was followed by our second race on 27th January - the AXA Raheny 5 Mile!
The final three races were:
1. Operation Transformation 5K - Phoenix Park on 23rd February 2013
2. Metro St. Brigid's KBI St. Patrick's 5K - Dawson Street on 16th March 2013
3. Dublin City Council 4 mile - St. Anne's Park on 6th April 2013
I would like to thank the Athletic Clubs, The Irish Sports Council and RTÉ for their participation in this race series.
Having a healthy and active lifestyle is vitally important for everyone and it is great to see so many people taking part in this series of 5K road races.
